| Bio: | For Essam to be in his current position is nothing short of remarkable but the hand of fate has long worked in strange ways and his very life seems as testimony to this fact. To look upon the man, it is easy to determine that he was not born of Gondor and in many ways after so many years, he still is a stranger to many in his adopted city of Belfalas save for the Knights of Amroth due to his unique place in their order as the current Knight Commander, having come to the position during the war from his former role as armsmaster. In his position, Essam is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the knights of Dol Amroth, leading them into battle at Imrahil's side and working with the other high ranking officials to be sure that things are running smoothly He's also acted as something of an informal therapist for many of the knights, particularly in the aftermath of war, when Dol Amroth's heavy loses must come to be dealt with. Because he comes off as rather gruff and no nonsense, it's a bit hard for most people to believe these things are true. Usually it is up to Essam to notice that one of his charges has a problem, and he's not above pulling them aside to talk about it, his personal philosophy consisting of the belief that a distracted soldier in the training yards or elsewhere will do himself or others no good in the field. He's also known for being quite inventive, coming up with lovely new ways to torture the knights he works with, as well as springing random challenges on those he has personally trained, for no reason other than to keep them sharp. Though he came to his position only recently, Essam has long served Dol Amroth, and at the time the choice of him for Knight Commander presented some very real issues, the largest one consisting of the matter of Essam's background and his very real status as a non natural citizen of Dol Amroth. Born near Harondor, Essam grew up with feelings of disdain towards those of the North, at least for the first fifteen years of his life. True, there were the occasional traders who were not so bad as all of that, but being that his experience of these men was minimal at best, he had developed a great deal of superstition and prejudice towards Gondor in general. It was not until this fifteenth year that he chanced to be kidnapped by Corsairs in a raid, sold, and used on a ship's crew for nearly three years. It was a raid by a Dol Amrothian Naval ship that granted Essam freedom once more and for the first time of his life, the then eighteen year old found that he owed these peoples a debt of gratitude. Rather than returning to his home, he vowed at least to visit in their lands and learn what he could of the peoples in hopes of acting as some sort of ambassador between the lands. What Essam had initially hoped, and what he found were two very different things. At the end of another year, he chose, rather to stay in Dol Amroth and use what skills he knew from his youth as well as gaining new ones in the Knighthood. It took some strings for him to be allowed in at all, but a precedent set by the Navy went a long way in gaining him the support needed though he was a few years older than many of the boys in his initial training class. The initial singling out of Essam for the position of assistant Master at Arms did have it's political motives. Assuming that one who had been where he'd traveled had valuable insights to the enemy's style of fighting, the Master at Arms decided to seek this wisdom, though not many people liked it. However, as the years passed, Essam began to prove himself to the order and to some outside of it, and his rising to that position, then later to knight commander came as little shock to those who actually know him well within their somewhat insular world. At the age of thirty two, Essam has now spent thirteen years fighting for Dol Amroth and for the most part, Amroth stands as the place where his loyalties lie, however the occasional conflict may well prove to test this loyalty and reserve as time and political decisions go by.
